Summer Travel Adventures
Share

This spring, I invite parents to come in and share videos or photos from trips they have taken. I always to do this as part of my geography unit. A big focus of this unit is leaning about "Far Away Lands." It was great to see how excited the children were each day we had a special visitor. They did a great job asking thoughtful questions. I love how this is a great way to learn about places and cultures from all over the globe through our very own classroom community.
This is the geography unit I use with my students. If you're looking for a fun geography unit to do with your students, check it out!
Postcards from Around the World
As a special project, I mailed each student a postcard. Here is the set I used and loved. I explained to the students that during our spring break, they were going to receive a special postcard showing a famous building or landmark from around the world. Their job was to have their grown-ups help them learn about that particular building. I also emailed the families to give them the heads up and encouraged them to help their child learn about the country as well. Here are some of the guiding questions I suggested they research:
- What are some of the typical food?
- What are some famous buildings?
- What celebrations do family have?
- What do children in that country do for fun?
To kick things off, I showed them the Leaning Tower of Pisa and explained that I was going to visit it this summer. I shared some history about this cool structure to spark their curiosity about their own postcards.
This travel adventure project was a hit with the students and their families. It's amazing to see how a simple postcard can spark such enthusiasm. I will definitely do this project again next year!
Summer Travels
While this was going on at school, at home, we were busy planning our family summer travels. This year, our adventure will take us to Switzerland and Italy. We've been excitedly preparing for our trip. For me, a big park of the fun is the preparation, actually... the shopping for travel gears! Here are some favorites I've discovered!
The Travel Backpack
First up is the travel backpack. I had my eyes on this backpack for quite some times after seeing many people at the airport with it. Well, I went for it! I have to say, I love it! It's spacious, comfortable, and perfect for keeping everything organized. I also purchased this mini portable charger. I have been testing it out and it's super fast charging. Definitely a keeper!
The Travel Sandals

After reading several travel blogs, I decided to follow their suggestion of investing in a comfortable pair of walking sandals. I ordered this pair because of its great reviews. Besides being comfortable, they are also so beautiful. I have been wearing them around town to test them out, and they are just fantastic! Last week, I walked six miles in them, and my feet were so happy! I am thinking about a second pair- maybe the champagne color :) I also wanted new walking sneakers that I could fancy-up with my summer dress. Here are the Adidas that I love!
Happy travels and happy teaching!
