Fun Back-to-School Ideas for Kindergarten: Name Activities and Read Alouds

The start of the school year brings a mix of emotions for kindergartners. It brings excitement, nerves, and everything in between. The best back-to-school activities for kindergarten do double duty: they help children feel safe and seen while quietly building the academic skills you need to establish from day one.

Here are two of my favorite ways to kick off the year with intention — one community-building routine and a curated list of read alouds that make names the centerpiece of your first weeks together.

Special Student of the Day: A Back-to-School Routine That Does Everything
