Can you Dance like a peacock?

Celebrate the Last Day of School with this fabulous picture book!

As the school year draws to a close, what better way to celebrate than with a groovy dance party? Can You Dance Like a Peacock? by Rekha S. Rajan is an enchanting story. It invites children to explore the world of dance and movement through the eyes of different animals.

Ending the year celebrating joy is always a good plan! Here are some fun and engaging activities to try.

Dance Party:

  • Begin the day with an animal dance party! Read Can You Dance Like a Peacock? aloud and then play some upbeat music. Encourage the children to dance like the animals in the book—leap like a frog, spin like a dolphin, and of course, (my favorite!) strut like a peacock!

Animal Headbands:

  • Use construction paper to create animal inspired hats. Provide materials like feathers, markers, and glue. Each child can choose their favorite animal from the book and design headband to wear for the dance party. Here is this super cute set!

Dance Freeze Game:

  • Play a dance freeze game. Have students dance to their favorite music and freeze in place when the music stops. To add a twist, call out an animal from the book, and the children must freeze in a pose that represents that animal.
  • Play some quiet music and invite students to create a drawing of their favorite animal from the story. You can also grab this FREE animal coloring pages!

Remember, the goal is to create a joyous and memorable last day of school for your students. So.... shake! shake! shake!

Happy dancing and happy summer!
