Go! ~ Building CVC Fluency for Early Readers

How to Use This Book:

• Show the cover and point to the title. Ask students: “What do you notice?”
• Trace over each letter while saying its sound, then blend them together: “G-O says ‘Go!’”
• Point to the exclamation mark and reread the title with excitement: “Go!”

Before Reading:

• Introduce the theme: “This story is about different things that go.”
• Explain letter colors: “Each letter has a different color to remind us that letters make their own sounds.”
• Preview the pictures: “Let’s look at some of the things that go!” 

During Reading:

• Model how to sound out words by segmenting the sounds and blending them together.
• Track print: Point to each word as you read to reinforce one-to-one correspondence.

After Reading:

• Comprehension check: “What are some things the author said can go?”
• Extend thinking: “What are other things that go?”
• Discuss the ending: “Why do you think the author ended the story with ‘Go! Go! Go!’?”
• Express excitement: Have students echo the phrase with energy, practicing intonation and fluency.
