Now available in a bilingual format, My Mommy’s Hair / El pelo de mi mami brings together English and Spanish in a beautifully lyrical text. The text is presented in an easy-to-read side-by-side style.
As a little girl brushes her fingers through her mommy’s hair, she describes its beauty with rich metaphors and sensory details of touch, smell, and sight. Her hair stretches like the canopy of a tree, rests proudly atop her head like a crown, and holds a story of love and connection in every strand.
This heartwarming picture book not only highlights the special bond between mother and child but also celebrates hair diversity. Additionally, it serves as a wonderful mentor text to inspire children to write their own personal narratives or “small moment” stories, encouraging them to find joy and creativity in the everyday details of life.

This book is a beautiful collection of short poems that tell stories of discovery and adventures, and my son loves to read it over and over again. The illustrations are wonderfully done in bright colors, so it's an excellent book to introduce short poems to your kids.
It was so empowering to share this book with my daughter. Loved the lyrical poems. Loved the message of loving all parts of ourselves especially what makes us different.
This book touches my heart as well as anyone who lost a loved one. While the ages for this book say 4-12, the words, pictures and beauty make your grief easier, and love for the one you lost, fills your heart at any age.
Such a touching book. Tanya Paris clearly understands children and how to talk with them about difficult subjects. This book will help anyone trying to open communication with children about loss and coping.
I think this book was written for me and my daughter. It is just perfect for us, and I love knowing she can see herself in a book. She is in school in a predominantly white institution and her hair texture is a topic that always comes up. When we read this book we feel proud, accepted and loved for our differences and beauty. It is such a delight to read.
