How to Use This Book

  • Show the cover and point to the title.
    • Ask students: What do you notice about the title?
    • Have students locate all the Q letters in the title and trace over them with a finger while saying the letter name and sound (/kw/).
    • Reinforce the idea that each letter has two forms—uppercase (Q) and lowercase (q).

Exploring the Story

  • Tell students that in the book, they will see different children being quiet.

    • Ask: When do we need to be quiet? (e.g., library, during a story, when someone is sleeping).
    • Point out how the first letter of "Quiet" is in red on each page to help the readers focus on the special letter.
    • Model how to use their pointer finger to interact with the activities in the book.
    • Let students practice tracing the letter Q in the air and then on paper.
