How to Use This Book:

Before Reading:

  • Show the cover and point to the title. Ask students to share what they notice.
  • Review key vocabulary words to support comprehension.
  • Share that in the story, a little girl is going on a trip with her mother and will tell us about all the things they are bringing.
  • Point out that the main character uses a wheelchair, and ask students to think about how this might be part of her experience.

During Reading:

  • Model fluent reading, emphasizing intonation and expression.
  • Pause to ask: "What do you notice about how the little girl describes their trip?"
  • Encourage students to visualize what’s happening by describing what they imagine.

After Reading:

  • Discuss: "How is this family’s trip similar to or different from trips you have taken?"
  • Ask: "Why do you think the author included details about what they packed?"
  • Talk about the importance of inclusion and how different people experience the world in unique ways.
