The Fog ~ Developing Segmenting and Blending Skills

How to Use This Book:

Before Reading:

• Show the cover and point to the title. Ask students to share what they notice.
• Tell students that the story is about animals going into a fog.

During Reading:

• Show some of the words describing the animals’ movements and actions.
• Read some of the pages and model fluency, pointing out punctuation and using the correct intonation.
• Ask: “What animals have we seen in the story so far?” 

After Reading:

• Have students name other animals that might go into the fog.
• Ask: “What did you think about the ending? Was it a good ending? Why or why not?”
• Discuss: “Why do you think the author ended the story with ‘No, fox, no!’?”
